Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) has been a major talking point within South African business circles since 2007, when the initial Codes of Good Practice were gazetted and became the official guide to measure a business’s BEE status. In 2013 the initial Codes were amended to include new objectives and principles to further stimulate transformation within the greater business context. The need for a simple view of the BEE landscape was identified by Authors Jane Appasamy and Colette Crichton in order to increase understanding of the new BEE Codes which came into effect on 1st May 2015.
